NAUTICAL DESIGN
Nautical Design borrowed influences from both the Age of Exploration (1500 – 1700s), and the Scientific Revolution (1600 – 1700s), and includes the following elements:
Connection to the water: Evoke horizon lines, maritime colors, natural textures.
Simplicity & order: Clean lines, uncluttered surfaces, functional storage (born from tight ship cabins).
Honest materials: Wood, rope, canvas, brass, linen—things that patina well.
Light & air: Maximize daylight, reflectivity, and breeziness; avoid heavy, light‑blocking elements.
Durability & maintenance: Salt, sun, and motion demand robust, easy-to-clean surfaces (especially on actual vessels).
